Department of Psychology

Under the supervision of licensed professionals, graduate students from the Clinical Child Program within the Department of Psychology offer evidence-based therapy and assessments to the Denver metro community at the Center for Child and Family Psychology (CCFP). The following specialized clinics and centers are currently offering low cost services, including telehealth.

Graduate School of Professional Psychology

Under the supervision of licensed professionals, students from the Graduate School of Professional Psychology offer a broad range of confidential mental health care to the Denver community. The following specialized clinics and centers are currently offering low cost services including telehealth:

Morgridge College of Education

The Counseling and Educational Services Clinic (CESC) provides comprehensive psychological services, including evidence-based psychotherapy and psychological assessment. Clinic services are provided by doctoral and masters student therapists under live supervision from licensed psychologists, community based psychological consultants, and a peer consultation group. Services are offered on a sliding scale fee basis so that fees are not a barrier to receiving services. The clinic is currently offering confidential telehealth services.

Developmental Neuropsychology Clinic

In this clinic, founded by Dr. Bruce Pennington and directed by Dr. Laura Santerre-Lemmon, we conduct assessments for children, teens, and emerging adults who are experiencing problems in school and have concerns for dyslexia or other learning disabilities, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental differences (e.g., Intellectual Disabilities; Autism Spectrum Disorder). Comprehensive evaluations are also available for children and teens who may have experienced specific risk factors for neuropsychological problems, such as certain medical or neurological conditions. We provide an in-depth understanding of an individual’s strengths and challenges, and recommednations of how they can be effectively addressed in school (e.g., recommendations for an Individualized Education Program (IEP), 504 Plan) and at home. We provide services in-person and via telehealth. Spanish speaking services may be available.

Comprehensive Assessment Clinic

The Comprehensive Assessment Clinic provides low cost, high quality assessments to children and teens who are experiencing complex sets of symptoms. We often work with youth who are exhibiting a combination of school-based challenges, behavioral problems, and emotional difficulties. We specialize in carefully assessing a wide variety of domains, clarifying diagnoses, and making treatment recommendations for children and teens who are struggling across multiple life domains. We provide services in-person and via telehealth. Spanish speaking services may be available.

What Kinds of Therapy are Available?

We offer evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Parent Management Training (PMT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused CBT, and Cognitive Processing Therapy.

We offer therapy to many types of clients:

  • Child/adolescent therapy: Children and adolescents meet with their therapist by themselves and/ or with their caregivers to work on challenge areas.
  • Couples therapy: Couples meet with a therapist to get help communicating with each other, resolving problems, and improving their relationship.
  • Group therapy: Parents meet in small groups with 2 therapists to learn effective parenting strategies (e.g., how to decrease child outbursts, how to increase compliance, how to have positive time with your children, etc.).
  • Adult Therapy: An individual meets with a therapist to work on decreasing mental health symptoms and work towards building a more fulfilling life.
  • Family therapy: Families meet with a therapist to collectively discuss their problems and work towards solutions.

Graduate School of Professional Psychology

Professional Psychology Clinic (PPC)

The PPC has provided low cost, high quality psychological services to the Denver community for over 30 years. Therapy options are available to accommodate individual adults, children, adolescents, couples, families, and groups. In addition to psychotherapy services, the clinic also provides psychological assessments and forensic services. Some services may be available in Spanish through Latinx Psychology at GSPP.

Fees: We offer a sliding scale from $15-70 for therapy. Assessment costs vary based on type. We accept Medicaid/Medicare (although they don’t cover assessment) We have grant funding to cover treatment (therapy, assessment or med eval/follow-up) for those who qualify based on the State of Colorado grant funder guidelines.

Caring for You and Baby Clinic (CUB)

Our mission is to meet the psychological needs of pregnant and postpartum women and families with infants and young children. Some services may be available in Spanish and in other languages via interpreter.

Center for Oncology Psychology Excellence (COPE)

COPE offers individual, couples, family, and group counseling for individuals affected by cancer and their friends and families. These services will be provided at the Professional Psychology Clinic by advanced doctoral students in the clinical psychology program at the University of Denver. In addition, some services will be provided at community agencies and on-site at cancer treatment facilities.

Center for Performance Excellence (CPEX)

The Center for Performance Excellence (CPEX) provides sport and performance psychology interventions to individuals as well as teams and groups. By teaching mental skills that help athletes and performers achieve personal excellence, we hope to use performance as a vehicle for positive social change. Through an emphasis on well-rounded development, personal responsibility, and citizenship, clients gain knowledge and tools they need to flourish personally and professionally. We aim to empower clients to improve their lives through capability, consistency, and the joy of performing. By training the mind along with the body, we’re able to create connections between thoughts and actions. We offer consulting services to individuals, teams and groups, as well as workshops for groups, organizations, coaches, professionals and parents. Our consulting packages are designed for different performance domains including, but not limited to: sport, performing arts, high-risk occupations, and businesses and corporations.

Sturm Center

The Sturm Center is a specialty clinic which provides behavioral health treatment and wide variety of types of psychological assessment to Veterans (no matter discharge status, era or combat status), Service members (including Guard and Reserve) and their families (including children and adolescents). Our therapists are trained to provide culturally-competent and evidence-based care to this well-deserving population.

Trauma & Disaster Recovery Clinic (TDRC)

The Trauma & Disaster Recovery Clinic (TDRC) at the University of Denver International Disaster Psychology Program provides psychological support to those who have experienced adversity and trauma. We provide services to children, adolescents, adults, and families. We consider the role of trauma and culture throughout the treatment process. We use integrative and relational approaches that are flexibly applied depending on people’s needs and honor already existing strengths and resources. For example, we offer services to those who have experienced the following: pandemics, disasters, victim/survivor of a crime, physical, emotional, sexual abuse; natural disaster; acculturation stress; discrimination and/or hate crime; grief and loss; vicarious trauma/burnout; stress with life transitions. In addition to psychotherapy, the TDRC offers clinical consultation, workshops, and presentations to providers and agencies serving clients that have experienced trauma. We can offer expertise in the area of trauma, vicarious trauma, burn out, compassion fatigue, culture, and mental health. Some services may be available in languages other than English via an interpreter.

Assessment at the Counseling and Educational Services Clinic (CESC)

A variety of psychological, psycho-educational and career assessments are available at the Counseling and Educational Services Clinic (CESC). Under the supervision of doctoral-level licensed professionals, Child, Family & School Psychology graduate students conduct affordable, high quality psycho-educational assessments with children and young adults. Psycho-educational assessments may address the following areas: academic strengths and growth areas, social and/or communication skills, attention difficulties, behavior strategies, emotional concerns, learning challenges, cognitive strengths including assessments of giftedness, early childhood development, and college students seeking disability accommodations. Comprehensive adult psychological assessments, career assessments, and community organization consultations are provided by Counseling Psychology graduate students under the live supervision of licensed psychologists.
